Abhishek meaning
Abhishek (अभिषेक) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Anointing, consecration; ritual bathing of a deity
Abhishek (अभिषेक) is the Sanskrit abhiṣeka, from abhi-ṣic, "to sprinkle over". Monier-Williams gives it first as the anointing, inauguration or consecration of a king by sprinkling him with water, the royal unction at the heart of an Indian coronation. It also means the water used in that rite, ritual bathing more generally, and the bathing of a deity's image during worship. That last sense is still familiar from temple worship, where an image is bathed as an act of devotion. Indian name lists give Abhishek as "anointing" or "consecration", which matches the dictionary. The actor Abhishek Bachchan is a well-known bearer.
