Priya meaning
Priya (प्रिया) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Beloved, dear; (priyā) a beloved woman, wife
Priya (प्रिया) comes from Sanskrit priya, "beloved, dear, liked, favourite", which Monier-Williams lists under the root prī, "to please, to delight". The feminine noun priyā means a beloved woman or wife; MW renders it with the word "mistress" in its older sense of a woman who is loved. The same entry gives priyā for Arabian jasmine, small cardamoms and a poetic metre, and as the name of a daughter of Dakṣa in the Viṣṇu Purāṇa. The adjective can also mean pleasant or agreeable, and even dear in the sense of costly. Priya is given to girls in Hindu families all over India, in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and many other languages.
