Priyal (प्रियाल) is understood today as a soft form of priya, "dear, beloved", and name lists give it as "beloved" or "loved one". The same word does exist in Sanskrit with another meaning: Monier-Williams gives priyāla as the tree Buchanania latifolia, the piyal or chironji tree, mentioned in the Mahabharata and Ramayana, and priyālā as a vine or a bunch of grapes. Families choosing the name almost always mean "beloved", so that is best treated as its popular sense, with the tree as the dictionary meaning of the word.
