Sharmila meaning
Sharmila (शर्मिला) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
From śarman: shelter, protection; joy, bliss, comfort, happiness
Sharmila (शर्मिला) is usually explained from Sanskrit śarman, which Monier-Williams gives as shelter, protection, refuge and a house, and also as joy, bliss, comfort, delight and happiness; it is also the traditional surname-title Sharma. The name form śarmilā itself is not in the Sanskrit dictionaries, so it is best read as a later name built on śarman. Name lists give "comfort", "joy" or "protection", which follow śarman, and sometimes "shy", which comes instead from the Hindi-Urdu word śarm, "modesty", a word of Persian origin. The actress Sharmila Tagore made the name especially well known.
