Queen
Rajathi (ராஜாத்தி) is the everyday Tamil word for a queen. The Tamil Lexicon of the University of Madras records irācātti, marks it as colloquial, and glosses it as queen, giving irāṇi, rani, as its equivalent; it is the feminine of irācā, king, from Sanskrit rājan. Tamil parents also use 'en rajathi', 'my queen', as an endearment for a little girl, and the name carries that warmth. It is also written Rasathi, the older Tamil spelling without the Sanskrit letter ஜ.
