Sahib meaning
Sahib (ਸਾਹਿਬ) is a Sikh boy's name of Arabic origin.
Master, lord; the Creator; friend
Sahib (ਸਾਹਿਬ) comes from Arabic ṣāḥib. The Mahan Kosh gives three senses: lord, owner or master; the Creator; and a friend. In the Guru Granth Sahib the word is used again and again for God, as in the Japji's ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ, "the true Lord", at Ang 2. It is also the honorific given to the scripture itself and to holy places associated with the Gurus, such as Nankana Sahib, Patna Sahib and Anandpur Sahib. As a given name it is used mainly in Sikh families, on its own and in compounds such as Sahibjeet and Sahibpreet. Across South Asia the same word, often spelled saheb, is also a respectful form of address.
