Smriti meaning
Smriti (स्मृति) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Remembrance, memory; the body of sacred tradition
Smriti (स्मृति) is the Sanskrit word smṛti, "remembrance" or "memory". Monier-Williams gives it first as the act of calling something to mind, and records Memory personified as a daughter of Dakṣa and wife of Aṅgiras in the Harivaṃśa and the Purāṇas. The word also carries a weighty religious sense. Smṛti is the body of sacred tradition remembered and handed down by human teachers, including the law books of Manu and Yājñavalkya, the two great epics and the Purāṇas, as distinct from śruti, the Vedas "heard" by the ancient seers. Indian name lists give the same meaning, memory or remembrance. Well-known bearers include the cricketer Smriti Mandhana and the actor and politician Smriti Irani.
