Tathagat meaning
Tathagat (तथागत) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Buddhist epithet).
One who comes and goes thus; an epithet of the Buddha
Tathagat (तथागत) is the Sanskrit tathāgata, the title the Buddha used for himself. It joins tathā, "thus", with gata, "gone", or āgata, "come", so it can be read as "one who has thus gone" or "one who has thus come". Monier-Williams gives the ordinary adjective as "being in such a state or nature" and the Buddhist sense as one who comes and goes in the same way as the Buddhas before him. As a given name it is chosen by Hindu and Buddhist families alike, and is often spelled Tathagata in Bengal. A well-known bearer is Tathagata Roy, a former Governor of Tripura and Meghalaya.
