Manu meaning
Manu (मनु) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Man, the thinking creature; Manu, father of the human race
Also used to mean: wise, the first man
Manu (मनु) comes from the Sanskrit verb man, "to think". Monier-Williams gives the adjective as thinking or wise, and the noun as man or mankind, the "thinking creature". In Hindu tradition Manu is the father of the human race, one of fourteen sovereigns who each rule an age of the world; the present one, Vaivasvata Manu, survived the great flood with Vishnu's help as the fish Matsya. The words manushya and manav, "human", come from his name. Name lists give "wise" or "the first man". Manu was also the childhood name of Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi.
