Thennavan meaning
Thennavan (தென்னவன்) is a Tamil boy's name.
The Pandya king, as ruler of the south
Thennavan (தென்னவன்) means 'the southerner' and was a title of the Pandya kings of Madurai, the southernmost of the three crowned Tamil dynasties. The Tamil Lexicon gives it first as the Pandya king; it also notes that the word could be used of Yama, lord of the south, and of Ravana, king of Lanka. Pandya inscriptions and temple names, such as Thennavanisvaram, use the title. As a given name it belongs with Sezhiyan and Maran, other old Pandya titles revived by parents who want names from Tamil history.
