Durai meaning
Durai (துரை) is a Tamil boy's name.
Chief, lord, master; a leader or gentleman
Durai (துரை) is a Tamil word for a chief, lord or master. The Tamil Lexicon defines turai as a chief, lord, ruler, gentleman or leader, citing Arunagirinathar's Tiruppugazh, and compares Telugu dora and Sanskrit dhurya. In colonial times it was also the colloquial word for a European gentleman. As a name Durai means "lord" or "leader", the sense name lists give, and it often forms compounds such as Duraisamy, Durairaj and Annadurai, the name of the DMK founder C. N. Annadurai.
