Yashoda meaning
Yashoda (यशोदा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Giving fame; the foster-mother of Krishna, wife of Nanda
Also used to mean: giver of fame
Yashoda (यशोदा) is Sanskrit yaśodā, from yaśas, "fame, glory, honour", and dā, "giving", so it means "one who bestows fame". Monier-Williams records it as the name of Nanda's wife, the cowherd woman of Gokul who raised the infant Krishna, and, in Jain tradition, of the wife of Mahavira. Yashoda's love for the child Krishna is a favourite subject of Indian poetry, from Surdas to Carnatic songs. Name lists give "giver of fame", matching the dictionary.
