Ishani meaning
Ishani (ईशानी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, ई, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A name of Durga; feminine of īśāna, 'ruler, master'
Also used to mean: parvati
Ishani (ईशानी) is the feminine of Sanskrit īśāna, 'ruler, master', one of the older names of Śiva. Apte's dictionary gives īśānī as a name of Durgā, and since Durgā and Pārvatī are both names of Śiva's consort, name lists today usually give Parvati. Monier-Williams spells the goddess's name īśānā and keeps īśānī for the silk-cotton tree, a sense Apte records too. Through īśāna the name is linked to Śiva as lord of the north-east, Ishaan being its masculine partner. In modern Hindi it is often written इशानी, with a short first vowel, and Ishaani is another English spelling. The name is short, clear and easy to say across Indian languages.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Durga.
