Afreen meaning
Afreen (آفرین) is a Muslim girl's name of Persian origin.
Praise, applause, blessing; 'well done!'
Also used to mean: encouragement, lovely
Afreen (آفرین) is the Persian word āfirīn, also said āfrīn. Steingass's Persian dictionary gives it as praise, applause or a blessing, and as the exclamation "bravo, well done!". The word goes back to Middle Persian āfrīn, "praise, blessing". On Indian and Pakistani name lists Afreen is also glossed "encouragement" or "lovely". These are the meanings many families use today; the dictionary itself records praise, applause and blessing, and the cry of approval. Many listeners know the word from the song "Afreen Afreen" (1996), sung by the qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The name is used chiefly by Muslim families and is often spelled Aafreen.
