Nuzhat (نزہت) is the Urdu form of Arabic nuzha, from the root n-z-h. Steingass's dictionary gives it as pleasure, delight and cheerfulness, the pleasantness of a place, and also purity and goodness. Lane's lexicon explains the root's moral side: a nazīh person keeps away from what is unseemly. In Arabic nuzha also came to mean a pleasure outing. Name lists give Nuzhat as "delight" or "purity", both found in the dictionary. It is used by Urdu-speaking Muslim families in India.
