Monier-Williams gives it as unconquered or unsurpassed, from the Ṛg-veda on, and lists it as a name of Viṣṇu and of Śiva, of one of the eleven Rudras and of a son of Kṛṣṇa. The feminine Aparājitā is a name of Durgā and of the blue butterfly-pea flower. Satyajit Ray's 1956 film Aparajito, "The Unvanquished", took its title from the Bengali form of the word.
