Chandana meaning
Chandana (चंदना) is a Hindu and Jain girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Jain and Hindu usage).
Sandalwood; feminine form, also a creeper and a river
Chandana (ಚಂದನ, चंदना) comes from Sanskrit candana, sandalwood: the tree, its fragrant wood and the cooling paste made from it, which Monier-Williams notes was held in high esteem as a perfume and is still used in Hindu and Jain worship. The feminine candanā is recorded as a creeper and the name of a river. In Jain tradition Candanā, also called Candanabālā, was a princess of Champa sold into slavery who gave alms to Mahāvīra after his long fast; she became his first woman disciple and the head of his order of nuns, and is honoured among the sixteen virtuous women, the satīs. The name is used by both Jain and Hindu families.
