Harmeet meaning
Harmeet (ਹਰਮੀਤ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Mīt, a friend, who is Hari, God; God as friend
Also used to mean: friend of God, beloved of God
Harmeet (ਹਰਮੀਤ) joins har(i), God, with mīt, a friend. The Mahan Kosh derives mīt from Sanskrit mitra and notes that in Gurbani the word can also mean the Creator, the friend who never fails. The phrase ਹਰਿ ਮੀਤੁ, God the friend, appears in a hymn by Guru Ram Das on Ang 175 of the Guru Granth Sahib. Name lists render Harmeet as friend of God, and some as beloved of God; "beloved" goes a little beyond the dictionary word, which means friend. It is more often a boy's name, but girls carry it too.
