Hayaan (حیان) is a modern name used by Indian Muslim families, usually explained as a spelling of the old Arabic name Ḥayyān. It is linked to the root ḥ-y-y, "to live": Lane's lexicon gives ḥayy as living or alive, and ḥayāh as life. Lane does not list ḥayyān itself, so we cannot confirm its exact sense from the dictionary; families use it to mean "lively" or "full of life". The older form is known from Jabir ibn Hayyan, the 8th-century alchemist. Hayaan rhymes with Ayaan and Rayaan.
