Iravati meaning
Iravati (इरावती) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
The river Rāvī of the Punjab; a name of Durgā
Also used to mean: the river Ravi, earth
Iravati (इरावती) is the feminine of Sanskrit irāvat, which Monier-Williams gives as abounding in food or drink, refreshing and satisfying. As a name, irāvatī is the old name of the river Rāvī, one of the five rivers of the Punjab, mentioned in the Mahābhārata and the Purāṇas, and in the Bhāgavata Purāṇa it is a name of Rudra's wife, that is Durgā. Name lists give it as "the river Ravi", which matches the dictionary. The best-known bearer is the anthropologist Iravati Karve, whose essays on the Mahabharata, Yuganta, won a Sahitya Akademi Award.
