Kanad meaning
Kanad (कणाद) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
'atom-eater'; name of the founder of the Vaiśeṣika philosophy
Kanad (कणाद) is the Hindi form of Sanskrit Kaṇāda, built on kaṇa, "a grain, a particle", and a word for eating. Monier-Williams translates the name as "atom-eater" and identifies its bearer as the author of the Vaiśeṣika branch of philosophy, which teaches that the world is formed by atoms coming together. Tradition explains the name either by the sage living on grains gleaned from the fields or by his theory of particles. Name lists give "atom", which follows his teaching.
