Kannagi meaning
Kannagi (கண்ணகி) is a Tamil girl's name.
Kannagi, wife of Kovalan and heroine of the Silappatikaram
Kannagi (கண்ணகி) is the heroine of the Cilappatikāram, the Tamil epic attributed to Iḷaṅkō Aṭikaḷ. The Tamil Lexicon records her as the wife of Kōvalaṉ, and also notes a Kannagi in the older Puṟanāṉūṟu, wife of the chief Pēkaṉ. In the epic, Kannagi proves her husband innocent after he is wrongly executed for stealing the Pandya queen's anklet, and her fury burns Madurai. She is honoured as a model of chastity and courage, and is worshipped as the goddess Pattini in Sri Lanka. The Lexicon only tentatively links the name to kaṇ, "eye", so we give no literal meaning.
