Kaustubh (कौस्तुभ) is Sanskrit kaustubha, the name of a jewel. Monier-Williams describes it as the celebrated gem that rose with thirteen other treasures when the gods and demons churned the ocean, and which Kṛṣṇa or Viṣṇu wears on his chest; the Mahābhārata, Harivaṃśa and Rāmāyaṇa all mention it.
