We haven't confirmed a dictionary meaning for the name itself.
Kundavai (குந்தவை) is a royal name from Chola history rather than a dictionary word, and we could not find its literal meaning in the Tamil Lexicon or any other dictionary. It was borne by several queens and princesses of south India between the ninth and eleventh centuries. The best known is Kundavai Pirāṭṭiyār, elder sister of Rajaraja Chola I and a patron of temples, whom Kalki's novel Ponniyin Selvan made a figure of wit and political skill. The novel's film adaptation brought the name back into use, but explanations of its meaning found online are guesses.
