Pṛthā, mother of the Pandavas
Kunti (कुंती) is the name of one of the great women of the Mahabharata. Monier-Williams explains that she was born Pṛthā, daughter of the Yadava prince Śūra, and was adopted by the childless king Kuntibhoja, which gave her the name Kunti. Married to Pandu, she used a sacred charm from the sage Durvasa to bear Yudhishthira, Bhima and Arjuna, and before her marriage Karna, son of the Sun. She is remembered for her endurance and her prayers to Krishna. The dictionary also records Kuntī as a river.
