Lochan meaning
Lochan (लोचन) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, लो, it is a Mesh rashi name (Bharani nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The eye, organ of sight; illuminating, brightening
Lochan (लोचन) is Sanskrit locana, the eye or "organ of sight", a word Monier-Williams cites from the Mahābhārata and later poetry. As an adjective in the Bhāgavata Purāṇa it means illuminating or brightening. The word often ends compounds that describe a figure by their eyes: trilocana, "three-eyed", is an epithet of Shiva in the Rāmāyaṇa and the Upaniṣads, and Trilochan is still used as a name. Indian name lists give Lochan simply as "eye". A well-known bearer is Lochan Das, the sixteenth-century Bengali Vaishnava poet whose Chaitanya Mangala tells the life of Chaitanya in verse meant for singing. The feminine Lochana is used for girls.
