Tapasvi meaning
Tapasvi (तपस्वी) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Practising austerities; an ascetic
Also used to mean: one who does penance
Tapasvi (तपस्वी) is the Sanskrit tapasvin, "one who has tapas", the heat of spiritual discipline. Monier-Williams gives it as practising austerities, an ascetic, and records it as a name of the sage Nārada and of several other ṛṣis. In ordinary classical usage the adjective could also mean "distressed" or "poor", the state of someone who has given things up. Name lists give Tapasvi as "ascetic" or "one who does penance", the main dictionary sense, and some link it to Śiva, the great ascetic among the gods. It is the boy's counterpart of the girl's name Tapasvini.
