Ritesh (रितेश) is a modern name on the -esh pattern, ending in Sanskrit īśa, "lord". Most name lists give it as "lord of seasons", taking the first part as ṛtu, "season", while others give "lord of truth", from ṛta. Monier-Williams gives ṛta as fixed order, sacred law, divine truth and righteousness, the Vedic idea of the order that keeps the world in place, and ṛtu as a fixed time or season. By the ordinary rules of Sanskrit, ṛta and īśa join as ṛteśa, close to Ritesh, while ṛtu and īśa would give ṛtvīśa. Neither compound is in the dictionary, so both meanings are modern readings.
