Manav meaning

Manav (मानव) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, मा, it is a Simha rashi name (Magha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.

Human; descended from Manu; a man

Manav (मानव) is Sanskrit mānava, an adjective and noun formed from Manu, the first man and lawgiver of Hindu tradition. Monier-Williams gives it as belonging to or descended from Manu, human, and as a noun a man; in the plural it means mankind, the children of Manu. The same derivation lies behind Mānava-dharma-śāstra, the classical title of the Laws of Manu. Indian name lists keep close to this, giving "human" or "humane". The word is also part of everyday Hindi: mānavtā means humanity and mānav adhikār means human rights, so the name has a plain, familiar sense for most Hindi speakers.
