Noor meaning
Noor (نور) is a Muslim and international girl's name of Arabic origin, also used for boys.
Light
Noor (نور) is Arabic nūr, light. The word gives its name to Surah An-Nur, the twenty-fourth chapter of the Quran, whose verse 35, the Verse of Light, opens by calling God the light of the heavens and the earth. It is at home in Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi too, and appears in many compound names. The Mughal empress born Mehr-un-Nissa, whom the emperor Jahangir married in 1611, received the title Nur Jahan, "light of the world". Another famous bearer is Noor Inayat Khan, the Second World War radio operator of Indian descent who was sent into occupied France and posthumously awarded the George Cross. Name lists give the same meaning, "light".
