Parna meaning
Parna (पर्णा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage).
A leaf; a wing or feather
Parna (पर्णा, Bengali পর্ণা) comes from the Sanskrit noun parṇa. Monier-Williams gives its first sense as a wing or feather, including the feathers of an arrow, and its next as a leaf, which the dictionary explains as the plumage of a tree. Parṇa was also a name of the palāśa, the large-leaved sacred tree whose wood was used for ritual vessels. The dictionary has no separate feminine parṇā, so Parna is a modern girl's form of the word, used mainly in Bengal. The same word sits inside Aparna, a name of Pārvatī, "one who did not take even leaves" as food during her austerities, and inside names such as Suparna and Sriparna. It is a different word from Purna, "full".
