Sabina meaning
Sabina is a Christian girl's name of Latin origin.
A Sabine woman, of the ancient Sabine people of Italy
Sabina is a Latin name meaning 'a Sabine woman'. Lewis & Short describe the Sabines as an ancient people of central Italy, living next to the Latins, part of whom joined the Romans in the time of Romulus; the old story of the Sabine women is set at the very founding of Rome. Sabinus and Sabina became Roman family names. The Christian name honours St Sabina, a Roman widow martyred in the second century, whose fifth-century basilica still stands on the Aventine Hill. Some websites say the name means 'wise', but the Latin does not support that. In India Sabina is used in Christian families, and Sabeena is a local spelling.
