Saranya meaning
Saranya (शरण्या) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (South Indian usage).
Affording shelter or protection; a name of Durgā
Also used to mean: giver of refuge, protector, surrendered
Saranya (शरण्या) is the feminine of Sanskrit śaraṇya, from śaraṇa, "refuge, shelter". Monier-Williams gives śaraṇya as affording shelter, yielding help or protection, and also, of a person, seeking refuge; the feminine śaraṇyā is recorded as a name of the goddess Durgā, and the masculine as a name of Śiva. Name lists give Saranya as "giver of refuge" or "protector", which matches the dictionary. It is a different name from the Vedic Saraṇyū, wife of the sun. Saranya is the spelling used in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and Sharanya in Karnataka and the north.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Durga.
