Subramanya meaning

Subramanya (सुब्रह्मण्य) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (south Indian usage).

A name of Skanda or Kārttikeya, and of Śiva

Also used to mean: lord kartikeya, murugan

Subramanya (सुब्रह्मण्य) is Sanskrit su-brahmaṇya, from su, "very", and brahmaṇya, "devoted to sacred knowledge, dear to Brahmins". Monier-Williams gives it as very kind or dear to Brahmins, said of Vishnu, as the title of one of the Vedic chanting priests, and as a name of Shiva and of Skanda or Kārttikeya, the warrior son of Shiva and Parvati. In south India Subramanya is a Sanskrit name of the god, worshipped as Murugan in Tamil Nadu, and the name is given in Kannada, Telugu and Tamil families. Name lists give "Lord Kartikeya", matching the dictionary. Subramanian and Subramaniam are the usual Tamil forms.
