Subrata meaning
Subrata (सुब्रत) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali and Odia usage).
Strict in observing religious vows, very virtuous; ruling well
Also used to mean: devoted to what is right, pious
Subrata (সুব্রত, सुब्रत) is the Bengali form of Sanskrit su-vrata, from su, "good", and vrata, "vow, religious observance"; Bengali pronounces the v as b. Monier-Williams gives su-vrata as ruling well in the Rigveda, and later as strict in observing religious vows, very religious or virtuous, a word often used in the Mahabharata and Ramayana when addressing a good person. It is also the name of many princes and of Munisuvrata, the 20th Jain Tīrthaṅkara. Name lists give Subrata as "devoted to what is right" or "pious", matching the dictionary. Suvrata also appears among the names of Vishnu in the Vishnu Sahasranama.
