Urmi meaning
Urmi (उर्मि) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, उ, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A wave, a billow
Also used to mean: ripple
Urmi (उर्मि) is Sanskrit ūrmi, "a wave, a billow", a word used from the Rigveda onwards. Monier-Williams adds that it is used figuratively for a wave of feeling such as passion or grief, and in philosophy for the six "waves" of worldly life, such as hunger and thirst; it can also mean speed. He compares it with English "well" and German "Welle", "wave". Name lists give Urmi as "wave" or "ripple", which matches the dictionary. The name is used in Gujarat, Bengal and elsewhere, and the longer Urmila is often linked with it.
