Ansh meaning
Ansh (अंश) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Share, portion, part
Ansh (अंश) is the Sanskrit aṃśa, a masculine noun meaning "a share, portion, part". Monier-Williams also gives a partition or inheritance and a share of booty, and in astronomy and arithmetic a degree of latitude or longitude and the denominator of a fraction. In the Vedas Aṃśa is also the name of one of the Ādityas, the sky gods born of Aditi. Name lists give Ansh as "part" or "portion", and some add "a part of God". That phrase is not in Monier-Williams, but it echoes a familiar verse of the Bhagavad Gītā (15.7), where Kṛṣṇa calls the living souls in this world his own eternal portion, using the same word, aṃśa.
