Apsara meaning
Apsara (अप्सरा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A celestial nymph; literally "moving in the waters"
Also used to mean: celestial maiden, fairy
Apsara (अप्सरा) is the Hindi form of Sanskrit apsaras, the celestial nymphs of Hindu tradition. Monier-Williams explains the word as "going in the waters, or between the waters of the clouds", and describes the apsarases as female divinities who live in the sky, often visit the earth, can change shape at will and are fond of water. Famous apsarases include Urvaśī, Menakā and Rambhā, dancers in Indra's court. Name lists give "celestial maiden" or "fairy", in line with the dictionary. The word is also used in Hindi to praise great beauty.
