Aranya meaning
Aranya (अरण्य) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin, also used for girls. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A wilderness, forest; a distant land
Aranya (अरण्य) is Sanskrit araṇya. In the Rig Veda it means a foreign or distant land, and from the Atharva Veda on a wilderness, a desert or a forest. Monier-Williams also records it as the name of a son of Manu Raivata and of one of the Sādhya gods. The forest has a special place in Indian thought: the Āraṇyakas, "forest books" of the Vedas, take their name from the same word. Baby-name lists give Aranya as "forest" or "wilderness". In India it is used mainly for boys and sometimes for girls.
