Balwant meaning
Balwant (बलवंत) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Powerful, mighty, strong
Balwant (बलवंत) is the Hindi form of Sanskrit balavat, made from bala, "strength, power", and the suffix -vat, "having". Monier-Williams gives balavat as possessing power, powerful, mighty and strong, and also as intense or prevailing over something else. Baby-name lists give the name as "strong" or "mighty", which is exactly the dictionary sense. It is used in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Punjab, by both Hindu and Sikh families. Balwantrai Mehta, the second Chief Minister of Gujarat and an architect of the panchayati raj system, carried the name in its Gujarati form.
