Dakshayani meaning
Dakshayani (दाक्षायणी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, दा, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Daughter of Daksha; a name of Parvati
Dakshayani (दाक्षायणी) is the Sanskrit dākṣāyaṇī, "daughter of Dakṣa". Monier-Williams uses it for any daughter of Dakṣa, naming Aditi, Diti and Kadrū, and also for the lunar mansions, which myth treats as Dakṣa's daughters. Apte adds the sense for which the name is chosen today: a name of Pārvatī, through her earlier birth as Satī, Dakṣa's daughter and Śiva's first wife. When Dakṣa slighted Śiva by leaving him out of a great sacrifice, Satī died; Śiva carried her body across the world, and each place where part of it fell became a pilgrimage site called a pīṭha. Hindu tradition holds that Satī was then reborn as Pārvatī. Name lists give Dakshayani as "daughter of Daksha", matching the dictionaries.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Parvati.
