Gandhar meaning
Gandhar (गंधार) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Marathi usage).
The third of the seven primary notes of music
Also used to mean: third note of the musical scale
Gandhar (गंधार) is the name of a musical note. Sanskrit gāndhāra is the third of the seven primary notes of Indian music, the "ga" of sa-re-ga-ma, and Monier-Williams adds that it is personified as a son of Raga Bhairava. The same word names the ancient land of Gandhara around Peshawar, home of Queen Gandhari of the Mahabharata. Marathi families, who often take names from music, such as Ninad, Malhar and Swara, use it in the musical sense. One name list gives "fragrance", from the similar word gandha, "scent", but that is a different word.
