Ganpati meaning
Ganpati (गणपति) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Leader of a troop or host; a name of Ganesha and Shiva
Also used to mean: lord of the ganas, Lord Ganesha
Ganpati (गणपति) is Sanskrit gaṇapati, from gaṇa, "troop" or "host", and pati, "lord". Monier-Williams defines it as the leader of a class, troop or assembly. In the Rigveda the title is given to Bṛhaspati and to Indra; later it belongs to Śiva and, above all, to Gaṇeśa, the leader of Śiva's attendants, the gaṇas. Name lists give it as "lord of the ganas" or simply Ganesha. Ganpati is the everyday Marathi and Hindi form, heard at every Ganeshotsav, while Ganapathy and Ganapathi are the usual South Indian spellings.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Ganesha.
