Garima meaning
Garima (गरिमा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Weight; importance, dignity; the power of becoming heavy at will
Also used to mean: honour
Garima (गरिमा) comes from Sanskrit gariman, a noun formed from guru, "heavy", so its first sense is weight or heaviness. From there Monier-Williams records the figurative senses of importance, dignity and venerableness, which are the meanings parents usually see today: "dignity" and "honour". Gariman is also one of the eight siddhis, or extraordinary powers, named in yoga texts: the ability to make oneself heavy at will. Its partner mahiman, the power to grow large, is the source of the name Mahima. In Hindi garima is the ordinary word for dignity, which is why the name reads naturally to Hindi speakers.
