Jagabandhu meaning
Jagabandhu (जगबंधु) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Odia usage).
Friend of the world (jagat 'world' + bandhu 'friend')
Jagabandhu (जगबंधु, Odia ଜଗବନ୍ଧୁ) means "friend of the world". It joins jagat, which Monier-Williams gives as the world, especially this world, with bandhu, a kinsman or friend, the same word that ends Dinabandhu. In Sanskrit the compound would be jagadbandhu; the Odia name uses the shorter form jaga-. The compound is not a dictionary headword, so the meaning rests on its parts. The name is honoured in Odisha through Bakshi Jagabandhu, commander of the forces of the king of Khurda, who led the Paika Rebellion against British rule in 1817 and is remembered as one of India's earliest freedom fighters.
