Jay meaning
Jay (जय) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Victory, conquest, triumph
Jay (जय) is the Sanskrit jaya, from the root ji, "to conquer". Monier-Williams gives it as conquest, victory and triumph, whether in battle, at dice or in a lawsuit, and also as mastery over the senses. At the end of compounds it means "winning", as in dhanaṃjaya, "winning wealth". The dictionary lists Jaya as a name of Arjuna, of Indra and of the sun, and of an attendant of Viṣṇu in the Bhāgavata Purāṇa; it also notes that Yudhiṣṭhira used the name while living in disguise at King Virāṭa's court. Indian name lists give Jay as "victory", exactly the dictionary meaning. It is also spelled Jai.
