Juniper meaning
Juniper is an international girl's name of Latin origin.
The juniper tree, Latin iuniperus
Juniper is the name of the evergreen shrub with blue-black berries, now used as a nature name for girls. Lewis & Short define Latin iuniperus simply as the juniper tree, and Roman writers such as Virgil and Pliny mention it. The Online Etymology Dictionary says the word entered English in the late fourteenth century and that the Latin word's own origin is uncertain; the same berries give gin its flavour and its name. In older English Bibles "juniper" also translates the Hebrew rethem, a desert broom. Juniper has three easy syllables and is often shortened to June or Juni.
