Luqman meaning
Luqman (لقمان) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin (Quranic name).
Name of the sage given wisdom in the Quran (31:12)
Also used to mean: wise
Luqman (لقمان) is the name of the sage after whom the thirty-first surah of the Quran is named. The Quran says that God gave Luqmān wisdom and told him to be grateful (31:12), and the verses that follow record his advice to his son: not to set up partners with God, to pray, to bear hardship patiently, and to walk the earth without arrogance. Arabic tradition knew him before Islam as a proverbial wise man, and collections of fables were later attached to his name. Name lists give Luqman as "wise", which describes the man rather than the word: the origin of the name itself is uncertain. It is also spelled Lukman or Loqman.
