Mahmood meaning
Mahmood (محمود) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
Praised, commended; praiseworthy, laudable
Mahmood (محمود) is the Arabic maḥmūd, from the root ḥ-m-d, "praise", which also gives Muhammad, Ahmad and Hamid. Lane's lexicon groups maḥmūd with ḥamīd as praised, commended or spoken well of, and so praiseworthy and laudable. The Quran promises the Prophet a maqām maḥmūd, "a praiseworthy station", in 17:79. Famous bearers include Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni and the Hindi film comedian Mehmood. Name lists give the meaning as "praiseworthy", matching the dictionary. Mehmood is an Indian spelling.
