Mufida (مفیدہ) is the feminine of the Arabic mufīd, "one who gives benefit", from afāda. Lane's lexicon explains afāda as giving property to someone and as profiting or benefiting them, and fāʾida, from the same root, as profit, advantage or benefit, including knowledge one gains. Both mufīd, "useful", and fāʾida, "benefit", are everyday words in Urdu and Hindi. Name lists give Mufida as "beneficial" or "useful", in line with the dictionary. The name is used by Muslim families in India and is the female counterpart of Mufeed.
